Casa Rossa

In order to exploit the unique color opportunities of this famous piece of architecture, I had to plan a chromatic strategy. With white and three colors (ultramarine, magenta, chrome yellow) I did a complimentary under painting on a white primed panel. It was a counter-intuitive exercise that produced a fauvist look. Using a slightly expanded palette the next day, I glazed and scumbled more naturalistic color while retaining much of the under painting.
